Hi folks, I wanted to let you know that in the coming week or so I'm going 
to be upgrading the network service to the simpits.org and my other 
servers.

The current network link uses a DSL circuit that runs 1.5/768k.  The 768k 
number is the important one as that's the amount of bandwidth that the web 
servers have to send you content.

I'm upgrading to a MUCH higher bandwith service of 20M/5M.  This should 
alliviate any remaining speed issues that the hardware upgrade from last 
year didn't catch.

The down side of this transition is that I'm going to have to renumber the 
entire outside network - this will require updates to the nameserver 
addresses that all my hosted domains use and that change can take up to 7 
days to propagate throughout the root name servers.

When I have a firm install date, I'll post another message letting you 
know when the outage is likely to begin.

Hi Gene

Just in case you didnt allready know this...

You can ammend the DNS records time to live, set it for like one hour, that
will minimize the downtime on your servers, seen from the internet side..

Unless ofcause you also have your own DNS servers, then you have to ask your
provider to change the TTL for your dns servers... Shouldnt take 7 days,
when you know it advance

ot if you have a firewall in front of both lines - you could always have
NATs for each services :D

I hadn't thought of that - however, I'll be changing the nameserver 
addresses with the registrar(s) and that's where I suspect most of the 
delay will happen.

According to the testing I've done we're all back up and running.

Those of you that I host blogs for, PLEASE log in and make sure you're 
updated to the latest version of WordPress and make sure all your plug-ins 
are up to date.  You can use the automatic-upgrade feature in WordPress to 
handle this.
