The thing is that in 1986 there weren't many _accelerated_ graphics
cards at all.

VGA itself was not introduced until the PS/2 range in 1987. This is
before VGA, before any kind of local bus, before the 486 which powered
VESA Local Bus machines... it's even before the 80386SX, the processor
which made x86-32 into the industry standard.
