[GEM Development] Video Programming Book

Dear Developers - particularly, John Elliot,

While pitching out slips of paper, one had the name of a book that I had owned about PC video programming. It is NOT the one about Hercules In-Color cards (unfortunately)!

Wilton, Richard; Programmer's Guide to PC Video Systems (Second Edition); CPr 1994; Microsoft Press; LCCCN[19]94-20023

I had "EGA switches" noted on my slip of paper. My old PS/2 25-286 (4MB RAM; several different 30MB HDDs one-at-a-time hung out at the side ;-) ) had had video problems. It often booted to gray-scale OR could jump to that, when going graphical. I found a little DOS utility that would "set" the switches to 'color', again - after which there usually wasn't a recurrence until rebooted. Apparently, I had looked up their meaning in this book.

It covered some (early) "super-VGA" chip sets in the second Ed., as I recall. Long superseded, now, at the time I'm sure it was 'cutting' edge.

Sincerely,

Thomas Clayton
