section of aluminum angle was installed to support the bottom edge of the panel:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/instrument_panel_brace_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-101\" title=\"instrument_panel_brace_1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/instrument_panel_brace_1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"instrument_panel_brace_1\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/instrument_panel_brace_1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/instrument_panel_brace_1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In order to get the angle section to fit, the ends needed to be beveled at a 45 degree angle:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/angle_cut_for_instrument_panel_brace.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-87\" title=\"angle_cut_for_instrument_panel_brace\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/angle_cut_for_instrument_panel_brace-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"angle_cut_for_instrument_panel_brace\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/angle_cut_for_instrument_panel_brace-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/angle_cut_for_instrument_panel_brace.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The brace material was purchased at Ace, so if you build one of these you can easily find the bracing material.<\/p>\n<p>I had started working on the instrument panel bracing while I was waiting for the metal I&#8217;d ordered for the new throttle quadrant to arrive&#8230;\u00a0 Fortunately, buying from Online Metals has the advantage of fast shipping.\u00a0 They&#8217;re in Seattle so UPS ground is essentially next-day service for me. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>The throttle quadrant is a three lever control system (throttle, mixture and prop pitch) based on the throttle project in Mike Powell&#8217;s new book,\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mikesflightdeck.com\" target=\"_blank\">Building Recreational Flight Simulators<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I changed the design and part layout to accommodate the space requirements of my &#8216;109 cockpit.\u00a0 In order to make the lever system simpler to build, I needed to cut six .062 spacers to replace the multi-part assembly that made up the two &#8220;sides&#8221; acrylic, but soon discovered that the only &#8220;proper&#8221; bit that I had for cutting acrylic (an &#8220;O&#8221; flute bit) only had a .875&#8243; cutter length.\u00a0 I decided to try a 2 flute downshear cutter I had handy.\u00a0 Bad idea.\u00a0 The result was totally unusable.\u00a0 I ended up ordering a new 1 inch long, &#8220;O&#8221;
