It looks REAL.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today marked another milestone in my own cockpit built from the Series One DIY Cockpit plans.<\/p>\n<p>The now primer-prepped tub has been assembled and painted!<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what it looks like before the final color was applied:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_assembled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-64\" title=\"Cockpit tub assembled, just prior to painting.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_assembled-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Cockpit tub assembled, just prior to painting.\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_assembled-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_assembled.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Because the floor in my shop is so uneven, I had to place it on a table and loosen all the bolts, re-align everything and then re-tighten all the bolts.\u00a0 Never does a day go by when I&#8217;m NOT reminded of those incompetent idiots that built my shop. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>On to the painting!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/gene_painting1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-63\" title=\"..painting the end cap...\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/gene_painting1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"..painting the end cap...\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/gene_painting1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/gene_painting1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The paint gun I&#8217;m using is called a &#8220;siphon gun&#8221;.\u00a0 It uses a high velocity stream of air across an adjustable height tip to &#8220;pull&#8221; paint from the paint pot.\u00a0 This particular one is called a &#8220;Critter Gun&#8221; and is available at Amazon.\u00a0 This is the only paint gun I&#8217;ve ever owned that will throw un-thinned latex paint.\u00a0 I have my compressor set to 80 PSI or so and this little thing does a fantastic job.\u00a0 As a bonus, it uses a little 1 pint Mason jar as the paint pot.\u00a0 Changing colors is pretty easy as you never have to wash out the paint pot, just clean the siphon assembly &amp; gasket and change to another color in another Mason jar.\u00a0 Works great.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_painted1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-65\" title=\"Side view of the painted cockpit tub\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_painted1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Side view of the painted cockpit tub\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_painted1-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_painted1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is what the tub looks like after painting.\u00a0 I&#8217;m amazed at how well it turned out!\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t do a really great surface prep job before I primed, so the paint looks a little odd.\u00a0 The canopy, windscreen and other upper parts came out much better.\u00a0 Pics of those coming soon!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_painted2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-66\" title=\"End view of the tub...\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_painted2-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"End view of the tub...\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_painted2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/tub_painted2.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Zinc Chromate Green interior color really gives it that &#8220;real cockpit&#8221; look.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait until I&#8217;ve got it done and I can actually use it!<\/p>\n<p>Sunday the 30th I&#8217;ll be finishing off painting the upper cockpit parts like the canopy and windscreen.\u00a0 If I&#8217;m really lucky, I&#8217;ll get final assembly done tomorrow evening.\u00a0 If I do, I&#8217;ll update the site with new pictures.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for reading folks!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today marked another milestone in my own cockpit built from the Series One DIY Cockpit plans.
