which is surprisingly good considering how much I suck at metalworking. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/throttle_done2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-145\" title=\"throttle_done2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/throttle_done2-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"throttle_done2\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/throttle_done2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/throttle_done2.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m using a standard DE9 connector for the three slide pots that are linked to each lever arm.<\/p>\n<p>Right after I finished the throttle quadrant, I decided it was time to address the shortcomings in the rudder pedals that I built last summer.\u00a0 I was very disappointed in both the toe brake mechanism as well as the size of the pedals.\u00a0 I got lucky and found a pair of gas springs that had a 1-7\/8&#8243; I don&#8217;t dare mix measurement systems because I know for a fact it&#8217;ll come back and bite me in the ass some day.\u00a0 I drew a new pedal design based on Baloo&#8217;s original drawing, but I increased the pedal length by about 1\/2&#8243;.\u00a0 They&#8217;re just about 12&#8243; long now.\u00a0 The pedals were cut from 1\/2&#8243; Baltic Birch, which is a 7+ layer high quality plywood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/rudder_pedals2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-143\" title=\"rudder_pedals2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/rudder_pedals2-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"rudder_pedals2\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/rudder_pedals2-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.simpits.org\/geneb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/rudder_pedals2.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here you can see the new gas spring setup.\u00a0 The 40lb force required to actuate the gas spring gives a very realistic brake feel to the pedal.\u00a0 I was very happy with the result.\u00a0 I was also able to re-use the toe brake pots and actuator hardware without any changes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well here&#8217;s the completed throttle quadrant.\u00a0 I&#8217;m happy with how it turned out &#8211;
