I can arrange one at the Kansas Aviation Museum. The issue is the long driving distance for people moving cockpits in the US. ? For the airliners crowd I could open up the museum's 737-200. I could also set up the stand for viewing in the museum B-52D. ? We have about 7 local private cockpits and sims that we can set up for display which would be a good start. ? I'm in central Oklahoma, so I could be in Kansas City in a day. Gene has a point, of course: here in the US, everything is spread out over literally thousands of miles. :/ One option would be to get a handful of people around the US to host "regional" cockpit meet-ups. The only concern there is that our hobby is so relatively small and niche, I'm not sure you'd be able to get a significant amount of people together on a regional level. Still, you wouldn't do bad to start with a Kansas City meet and go from there. At any rate, my sim is not nearly complete, but it is almost "flyable" again, and I deliberately made it portable enough to throw in the back of a large'ish pick-up or small flatbed trailer. You don't even need the pricey "FAA" key, the standard instructor console is pretty comprehensive as I recall. I will be working with it later this year once I get my sim back up and running (trying to get the instructor/sim-op stuff ready in time for Wichita!). Of course, all this assumes you're willing to use X-Plane as your sim software. Thanks! ok!/instructor station of sorts/??? for the most part it dose not really exist!! you might look at X-plane.. but most of sims fall flat and well short of any instructor station... Well I have talked about this here before, and in my blog (http://phoenixcomm.wordpress.com) The problem stems from that the "sims" are basically monolithic. So If you wanted the instructor station, and or a back seat in an F14 or the "bridge of the Enterprise", or all the crew stations on a B52 your out of luck! Well Not So. I have been working on NextGen for the last 4 or 5 years. Its based on passing messages, between various computers, ie Model (3D model of your planes dynamics, flying over the earth), the NAV computer (basically the inputs and outputs of the Model), Auto Pilot, Pilot controls (direct control over the dynamics model), Control Panels, Radio SubSystem which includes: network connections to VATsim, a Morse Code Simulator, and output to drive instrument flags), and then of course the out the window computer. Yes, I love the old analog radios. I have a second navcom, a transponder, and an ADF that look similar, and all will eventually be interfaced and installed into the sim. Also the audio panel is a Collins AMR-350, and it has panel lighting as well. A couple other instruments have internal lighting, for the rest I will be using light posts. This should be a very "alive" looking sim overall with the lights on. :) I also have a 1980's-era CDU for an Omega nav system, with a backlit keypad...now THAT is a thing of beauty! I still have his card somewhere, I should go get it and look them up again. How did you find them? I told the guy I had not heard of them, he said they sorta hide out up there. :) This particular individual picked up a Boeing nose section in Hawaii and is building his own sim....but the builder in OKC is not me, I wonder who else around here is building a cockpit. I told the guy I had not heard of them, he said they sorta hide out up there. :) This particular individual >picked up a Boeing nose section in Hawaii and is building his own sim....but the builder in OKC is not me, I wonder who else around here is building a cockpit. I have not >purchased anything locally yet. >Matt It looks like we will need to place your sim indoors with the indoor exhibits. Im glad you are bringing a GA project, so far the rest are military. My means invite the guy to cockpit-fest. Id be interested to hear about his project. I found Stewart because they?specialize in?DC-8 and other old jet parts. I got lucky they had the radome. The funny thing is, Ive been within a mile of their location with the B-52 sim and had no idea they were in the area. Been driving within 4 miles of the radome for 10 years. lol. I think Chris still has three F-111 modules with the main one on display at the Frontiers of Flight Collection. Its not set up as a sim, its in original configuration and much of the gear powering up including the radar scope and the HUD. He is also bringing ejections seats and an F-16 cockpit to cockpit-fest.
