I've gone through this about ten times now in the past 4 or 5 years. I just 
keep lying to the stupid computer generated voice and say "one" to the the 
how many computers is this software installed on question. Works for me 
every time.

After all, is a computer generated robot going to call you a liar?

My sentiments too Gene,

But I've heard  of some Windows key gen and crack code that really screw 
your computer.

I know it's annoying, but it only takes ten minutes.

Just click activate by phone, call the number, tell them the key numbers, 
then when it asks how many computers say "one."

Then type in the numbers they tell you, click activate, and you're done. 
Theoretically, you *can* install it as many times as you please this way.

Oh yea,

Once you go through that, you won't have to do it again for another three or 
four installs. At least I haven't. I have one version of Vista on four 
computers at the house, three hooked up to signs, and two in the shop, not 
to mention the half dozen or more computers that I don't have anymore.

Guess I better pull the shades.

The whole activation thing is a 100% huge waste of time, effort, and (for businesses, and MS) money. I remember back when XP was going to be the first Windows version with the limited activation thing that phoned home to MS. Everyone was up in arms..."What if I replace my motherboard? What if my hard drive dies? What if I do an entire rebuild? What if Windows simply hoses itself and must be reinstalled, as it is so wont to do from time to time?" Apparently MS saw the ultimate impracticality of such draconian measures, because it is possible to active XP literally as many times as you want. Even if you get elevated to a "live" tech, they always ask the same question: how many computers has it been installed on? "One." Activation granted!

And so, all the worries from the pre-XP days were (mostly) unwarranted (not counting the crass and blatant privacy issue). Of course, that also means that the entire activation scheme was a complete and utter waste of time too. The only time I've seen XP keys not activate is when one gets "blacklisted" by MS, probably either because it has been determined to be a pirated key (so sorry for the person who actually DID buy that key, have fun shelling out for a new license, buddy), or because it was never a valid key in the first place but satisfied XP's mathematic algorithm for activation keys, if that's even possible. This happens so rarely that it is barely even worth mentioning.

I expect FSX's scheme works in a similarly retarded fashion. As soon as I heard FSX was going to go the Windows'esque activation route, I knew I would never buy another copy of MSFS again.

from family, less than ideal locations.

That was taken back before it stopped working! The tranny went out about two years ago, I FINALLY managed to get it out this summer and have just finished the rebuild. Sliding it onto the engine is proving extremely difficult, but I shall prevail!

I used to be into Datsun Z cars (as can be seen in the background), but quite frankly, the little Alfa stole my heart...no more Zs now!

Yep, I bought the Alfa in Tucson Arizona (no rust!!!) but moved to Oklahoma City a couple years ago. The Duettos are nice, I can certainly see the attraction there. I prefer the longer, squared-off Kamm tail of the series 2 and 3 Spiders myself.

I've been interested in the GTV6 ever since I saw a race build at my Alfa guy's shop in Tucson. The engines are actually very high performance in those from what I understand. But if I do buy another Alfa any time, it will probably be a 164S (fast sedan)....or another Spider .:)

the 164 is so boring...
especially compared to the GTV
do some reading on the Calloway ones... (now try to find one)
and it is a rear wheel drive with the de-dion axle, so many race wins.

That looks GREAT Justin, excellent work! I'm very interested in construction details of your screen, this is pretty much the exact design I'm going to be building once I get my Lear sim built up. Are you using Nthusim for the image warping? What is the screen made of?

Btw, I'm still working on my OpeGL network-based instrument display software, in case you want to switch to something that is easier to render on a widescreen monitor. ;) Is the sim Falcon 4?

It is FSX with an F-35 flight model. Sorry :) I think Brad did install the new?BMS over the weekend but I havent been over to look at it.? This project really?makes me want a dome visual system for my F-4 Phantom sim, but it would take a larger facility than I currently have. Bummer.

Im the first to admit I am no expert about expanded visual systems, but I am lucky to have Brad from Nthusim in town who is. My F-35 is currently in his basement set up with an 180 degree visual system (lucky dog!).

If you're going to build something that uses the Garmin G1000, they carry 
a 10" 1024x768 screen for $225 that has an HDMI input on it.  The G1000 
uses two 10.5" screens @ 1024x768 with a 4:3 aspect ratio.  These would be 
a great choice for that kind of setup.

For a short period I had a functional g suit in my F-4 sim tonight. It rocked! I could not believe the amount of pressure that thing can produce, it completely changed the simulation experience and reminded me of the feeling I had on?my T-6 texan flight. Pulling g hurt! 
?
Then something went terribly wrong and the g suit didnt deflate after a turn. Im?controlling it with an USBoutputs card from open cockpits and supect I over amped?the card. Im well within the amp limit?per an output, but I see its total amp capacity is only 2.5. Thats not much when running 12v motors, solenoids, ?and LEDs on a card with 64 outputs. I trigger all of the 24v?equipment with relays? Half the outputs on the card will not shut off even with the USB cable disconnected so the card has to be shorted. They talk about running bulbs up to 40v, but to use all 62 outputs with such a low amp limit?I think?the card is really just good for LEDs.

The computer?also?no longer reacts correctly to a mouse click, so the damage seem to go beyond my cards. I fear i have a total loss on my gear in the F-4 sim :(?
If so Im not sure I will rebuild it?due to the cost.?

That's a real shame Justin, I'm sorry to hear this.

When I built my 16 channel output board for the F-15, I specifically 
designed it to use power transistors (TIP-125 in a TO-220 package) in 
order that I could power high-draw devices without worrying about blowing 
the board up.  I designed it so that any device capable of driving a +5vdc 
"high" could activate one of the channels on the board - this means 
anything from driving it directly via a 5V power supply to using a Phidget 
to control it.  If you want the schematics I'd be happy to provide them.

is based on the ESP platform that Microsoft used to create FSX.  ESP was 
sold to LM and shortly after the ACES team got their pink slips.

looks like the ORBX guys are working with P3D as well.

Brian, I was concerned about the friction increase due to air pressure. 
By using a gear, I'm giving the mechanical advantage to the servo to 
overcome the extra friction caused by air pressure pressing against the 
gear.  Even so, I've got a special "lubricated" surface sheet attached to 
the top of the box that greatly reduces the friction between the gate gear 
and the box top.  It's almost teflon-like stuff.  I got it from Matt W. 
many years ago.

At some point a new bypass gate box will be built that incorporates some 
sound damping material and a more efficient bypass gate system.  For now 
though, it gets the job done.

I'm sure this will end up being a really simple question for most of 
you, but I've done a bit of googling and I'm not having much luck.

I've got a dual monitor setup, and what I'd like is to have some basic 
instruments I can toss on my second monitor. Nothing fancy or even 
aircraft specific, just your standard airspeed, altitude, VSI, etc.

I've been playing around with Just Flight's DC-3/C-47 addon, and I 
prefer to fly in VC mode but then the instruments aren't easily visible. 
My workaround at the moment has been to switch to 2d view and drag the 
cockpit onto the second monitor, then switch back to VC view, but 
obviously this is a bit clunky, I'd like something a little better 
(preferably something I could set up to be persistent across aircraft 
and flights).

Suggestions?

I've started playing around with FSUIPC and WideFS, and I think I've got 
an even better idea now... Fire up my netbook and throw the gauges on 
there, use both of my 19" widescreen monitors for outside views! lol

Dear lord I think this is gonna head in directions I'm not ready for.... 
Has anyone built a computer yet that can run FSX with sliders full 
right? If so specs please. *cackle* j/k... no new computers in the 
future for me, not right now....

Hi all,

Going back a month, I remembered the posts regarding encoders.

I don't know if it will help, but I was digging through some of my
spares bins when I found a box of encoders. These are cheap mechanical
types almost identical to:

These are 30 detent, metal through-panel mount, 6mm metal shaft,
2-phase plus common output with two pins for momentary NO push switch.

I have 60 of these which I shall list in packs of five.

If anyone is interested I will be putting these on eBay this weekend.
If there is any interest, I shall post the link when they are listed.
