At some point I'm going to design a new one that will have a much tighter radius. That will require a more difficult projector layout, so I'm not going to mess with it right now. I'm going to get two more canvas drop cloths for interim screen material but it will eventually be one continuous sheet of Muslin in either white, or painted white. g. -- Proud owner of F-15C 80-0007 http://www.f15sim.com - The only one of its kind. http://www.simpits.org/geneb - The Me-109F/X Project ScarletDME - The red hot Data Management Environment A Multi-Value database for the masses, not the classes. http://www.scarletdme.org - Get it _today_! If not, behold: http://www.simpits.org/geneb/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/six-segments-3.jpg That screen is six of the 8 segments needed to build a 180 degree screen that's right around 24' in diameter. The size of that thing has been bugging me ever since I built it. I started working through the figures again. Yell if I screw it up (again): Each projector can display a 110" wide image. Three of them would require a screen 330 inches wide. Now I want to display this on a screen that covers a field of view that's 180 to 225 degrees. Now going on the assumtion that those 330 inches of screen would be pretty close to a circle that's 660 inches in circumference, right? Right. So a circle that's 660 inches in circumference works out to a diameter of roughly 210 inches or 17.5 feet. I can honestly say that I have no farking clue where I came up with a screen diameter of 24 feet. It must have been a math induced brain fever or something. That's how I did the larger one. The FOV for each projector is completely under the control of the software. For example, Ivar Hestness' 737 project is using a 225 degree physical screen using 3 projectors that show 75 degree slices of view using un-docked windows. The NThusim gang recently added a feature to their software that would clip the pixel or two wide border that appears when an un-docked window in MSFS has the input focus. Our engines are virtually identical to the 737's. As mentioned earlier, there's no direct correlation between FF and N1, but next time I get some time to play in the sim I can get you some rough numbers. I do know that at ground idle you're sitting at about 900PPH, with N1 at ~10% or so. Flight idle kicks that up a bit. And yeah, 2200-2500 is a good wag for cruise. Message-ID: Saturday I got all but 8 parts cut for the new screen configuration. David Allen provided me with a nice drawing that I used as the basis for the new screen. This one consists of four main segments that covers 180 degrees and two smaller segments that when added to the ends gives me a 225 degree screen. I'll get the last parts cut either this week or this coming Saturday and begin assembly. I've reduced the old screen to scrap in order to recover the 2x4s I used for the legs. :) The new screen has a diameter of 15' instead of that absurd 24' I was working with before. :) I found a supplier of raw screen material here: http://www.buildyourownprojectionscreen.com/ The prices seem pretty reasonable. They also sell a .090" thick rear projection material that I may be able to use with the F-15. In order to build a screen suitable for rear projection, it would have to be made from some steel components in order to reduce the number of structural parts - it needs to be "sparse" enough to not cause shadows on the screen.
