I grew up air force, my brother-in-law is still in, and I had every intention of modeling my cockpit after a 15, or 16, or if i got really devious, the f-111... i just don't have the room for a side by side... hands down, i love the 'vark... my boss was stationed RAF upper heyford, and he shared a rather nice collection of books and photos on the f-111... everyone likes the 16's cockpit, but I prolly would sell my firstborn if I had a chance at getting a f-111 cockpit... I got lucky on my helmet... I wanted the hgu-55, but this guy had a few 33's left over with an imaculate taping job, plus he threw in the mask (it was non-repairable for flight) for1/3 the cost of one on ebay... so that pretty much settled where I was going to go with the collection, much to brother's dismay... Hope you have a great week, off to ebay for that LPU, its available!!! :) Scott ----- Original Message ----- From: Sean Galbraith To: Scott Cerrito ; Simulator Cockpit Builder's List Sent: Friday, April 09, 2010 10:13 PM Subject: RE: [simpits-tech] 1980's Navy Aircrew Gear List Lol! Crap... you're right. This was when I was experimenting with 3 spanned video cards and projectors. You create the 3 undocked views, move them to roughly where you want, with the field of view (or zoom factor to achieve that field of view) and save the situation. Next go and edit the .flt file to add the "maximised=true" line..... If you are using TH2GO... well, then it's a whole new world :( I had some success, and by playing around with the projector settings you can stretch the picture to go outside the projected area. Then you just have to build that overlap in to the view angles for the left and right views and it should work. It would probably be hell on frames though :( When I played with that kind of setup I built a PC with 3 8800GT video cards, (quad SLI motherboards are not overly expensive nowadays) running as separate displays in FS, that wasy you can configure each screen independantly and use the maximise command. I'm going to try a "crossfire" experiment where the projectors are aimed like this: /|\ The left projector would aim to the right and the right would aim to the left. I've asked the owner of DIYProjectorKits.com what the FOV is for the 330mm output triplet lens that my projectors use. Having that info will help me get the screen design done. I'd like to be able to get 225, but that may not be practical for the amount of space I have available. :) One screen set has to be usable for the F-15 as well as the smaller cockpits. g. -- Proud owner of F-15C 80-0007 http://www.f15sim.com - The only one of its kind. http://www.simpits.org/geneb - The Me-109F/X Project ScarletDME - The red hot Data Management Environment A Multi-Value database for the masses, not the classes. http://www.scarletdme.org - Get it _today_! X-Plane is still 32 bit should it go to 64 bit then I have total of 10 gigs . I live in Southern California we have high temps and it rarely get below 40F at night daytime ave is 63F year around but summers are always 75-85-95-105F still this baby runs like a clock Total price total price about $3000 these figures include shipping because California 10% sales tax most item were bought in NY city or New Jersey except the power supply and MOBO were bought direct from EVGA . note: of all the card suppliers EVGA was the best not only a live person tech support. We needed to know exactly how much the video cards drew in power full out. Nvidia won't talk,ATI would not talk AMD the same but a VP at Evga would and told me exactly in watts what each card drew maximum. This private information which we got and nobody else would talk about it . That is how I got a 20amp system to run at 20 amps exactly and never have a giitch. I found out the, top end at that time, the 295 extreme with prox 1700MEGS although no one ever expressed a maximum requirement for power we found out 1 card needed 550 watts to run flat out . This new 480 and AMD you need to know for sure that information before you buy a power supply unless you buy a 2000 watt PSI or run only 1 card . The biggest issue on computers today is under powered PSI After all most a year since we started planning for this system I have to say its been a wonderful experience one last thought 4 years ago I wanted to build the hottest gamer you could get .Nobody had ever even heard the words SLI no one built a Mobo to run more than one. I did The hottest video cards on the planet were Geforce 7800GTX 512megs each the only mobo that would run 2 at once was was a SuperMicro a server board .Server boards can be from 13inch X 13 inches to 2 feet X 2feet They need a special case With 2 gigs of ram and Supermicro 750watt server board I ran flight simulator with every feature to the limit at 60FPS over Manhattan at control height but it ran hot,Dirty and sounded like a jet engine . I got fed up with it and gave it to Rick Davis Shelburne Nova Scotia because its cold up there and I figured it would run better . I had to break my piggy bank on that one and beg mummy for some more money. Not so. Decomissioned LOL. Has a tendancy to eat RAM. Chewed through about 4 gigs of pricey new ECC sticks in 6 months. Scared to put any more in it. Yup, sounds like a plane. Won't run long without the fans either, even up here in the North Pole. Nice big case, but also impossible to work in unless you're a Leprechan. Doesn't like X-Plane much for some reason either. I've had it loaded as new with both XP Pro and Vista. Starts bleeping and going all freaking nuts after about a half an hour of flying. I eventually put a piece of electrical tape over the Pizo hole before I took a pair of needle nose pliers to it to shut it up. Always crashing. That's why I eventually broke down and bought this I7 after I lost about 6 hours editing (yea ... I know "stupid head" had the autosave turned off 'cause it was locking things up) I tried everything right down to cleaning an re-seating the processors with the best compound I could buy. No difference. I think it's compatability issues or something. Like they skipped the driver build for that configuration. I gave up trying to find the audio drivers and installed another card. Currently it's in the process of being packed up and shipped back to you (ha ha) so you can play with it again. I do have it running ok now, Windoze XP Pro 32 bit but only one gig of ram left and I ain't buying anymore. Riccard -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: Ok, so moons ago I bought four Dell E152FPc displays to use as organ donors for my projectors. This specific model was known to have no "FFC" or Flat Flexible Cable issues with the LCD itself. If this FFC cable is present, you can't use the LCD in a projector because you can't move the top & side circuit boards out of the way. It turns out that Dell changed LCD suppliers at some point. Two of the four displays use an LCD panel WITH the FFC. *facepalm* I purchased some Gateway 15" displays on eBay yesterday - they're also on the list of known "no FFC" issue displays. Keep your fingers crossed. :) Had this not happened, I would've had the third projector built - it was just waiting for me to strip the LCD for it. As it was I ended up going to see Kick Ass instead. Nothing like watching an 11 year old girl brutally kill bad-guys to improve ones mood. :) I still don't know what my final screen size is going to be, but it's going to be BIG. :D g.
