No, they didn't.

1. There's no such thing as "the" GPL. There's GPL 1, 2, 3, AGPL,
LGPL, etc. And most distros contain all of 'em plus BSD, MIT, SCSL,
CDDL, etc.

2. The GPL only says you need to give source to your customers, nobody else.

3. Try Debian.
