A mostly personal project but some on the list my find it amusing.? The files are at ??? http://www.geocities.com/zaojashin/freegem.html if you care to look (there are some screenshots). Notes these will be up until 10/26/09 at which time geocites will close. Thanks for the help (posted here and on the individual websites) by the folks on this mailing list. Relative to GEM information, I've? found that two ancient texts (of course) are readily available in the used book market. These being: Programer's Guide to GEM (Paperback) by Phillip Balma & Willian Fitler The Gem: Operating System Handbook by Dave Prochnow I have no idea if these will be useful as I am still waiting from them to arrive. However, the cost of the texts was less than the shipping; thus, I was curious enough bite. These may bring me ?up to date? though. David --- On Mon, 8/17/09, Jos? Emilio Mori Recio wrote: From: Jos? Here is quick description of the system. I used the following version of the Pacific-C compiler: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/devel/c/pacific/pacific.exe (I have better luck with this ?older? version) I used John Elliott's version of the desktop (version 3.2.4-pacc11). The only modification I made when recompiling was to modify the internal file viewer to use the up/down arrow keys from the keyboard. (the handle_key() function in deskapps3.c) I also used John's FreeGEM AES 3.00 alpha. Here I only changed for value of NM-FILES in gemlib.h so that the file selection window would show the complete content of my directories. (Sometimes I like to use John's AES 3.00 stable version as the window zooming is different). The appearance and such I changed to my linking using settings.app and these are saved in the gem.cfg file. I also used the FreeGEM 3.00 VDI/GDOS (Eathan Clark's modification of ViewMax/3 code). However, I stripped out the bezier routines (just couldn't get the communication working with my limited skills) and the use of the use of a gemsys.cfg file. Thus it's back to the GEM3 code but compiles fine with jwasmd.exe or the like and is smaller. I used Heinz Rath's SVG screen driver but recompiled to VGA resolution using jwasmd.exe (I like the VGA screen for GEM which I think is easy on the eyes). Lastly, the OUTPUT.APP was something a mindless experiment (please note I'm not a programmer and hobbies can be illogical) as I disassembled the obj and lib files to recompile with jwasmd. Sorry for the long reply.? I will say, in the end, the package does what I like and provides me with some fun. --David --- On Tue, 8/18/09, Thomas Clayton wrote: From: Thomas Clayton Subject: Re: [GEM Development] some updates To: "GEM Development" Date: Tuesday, August 18, 2009, 12:45 AM David, What version(s) of FreeGEM was (were) used in those projects? Obviously YOU "mix and match" to your own liking - a LOT!! As an ALMOST entirely lesser programmer (Do I even DESERVE the term at ALL?), I GREATLY appreciate insights as to who does (/ did) what with the various pieces that make up our multi-faceted GEM (pun intendED)! :-D Sincerely, Thomas Clayton I couldn't help myself. My wiki will stay up, no worries about that. I cannot honestly remember at the moment what needed doing to fix it though - I seemed to recall I needed to speak to Rob about it for some reason, but I simply haven't had time to do anything with it recently. Sorry about that. At the moment, I can't say when I will look at it.
