Dear Groups:
Sorry if this 'got thru' and is, now, a repeat but ...
I found it 'way down' in my Inbox and I don't know if I already
RE-sent it!

Dear Jim:
Try this site
http://www.shaneland.co.uk
and follow its GEM links to
http://gem.shaneland.co.uk/
for THE most up-to-date GEM version (free, of course)!
Also, some comments on comparing the two GOEs:
GOE = Graphical Operating Environments
GEM pre-emptively multi-threads but doesn't multi-task
(one main app. running at any one time plus two or three 'desk
accessories': e.g. alarm clock);
GEOS pre-emptively multi-threads and multi-tasks
(more than one 'main' app. as well as a myriad of small ones).
The 'polish' of GEOS *IS* much greater and it *IS* much more
capable of 'doing things' than GEM ... but GEM is beautiful for its
simplicity and MINimal Hw requirements (80088, Hercules(R)
graphics). (Note HDD *not* required IF you have two 360KB floppies
which I tried once - ONCE!) GEOS users should give GEM a 'look' -
even a trial run - just to see what *WAS*. GEM users should 'peek'
at GEOS and dream of what could be accomplished 'over DOS' - IF
ONLY that evil ogre (apologies to "Shek") in Redmond hadn't
'hijacked history'.
Sincerely,
Thomas Clayton
who IS in BOTH camps
and
is WARPed as well
(IBM 32/16-bit hybred OS/2)
