Dear Everyone

OpenGEM Release 3 BETA is now online for testing. It is intended to be an
easy to use, stable and well tested GUI for DOS, and to provide the best
possible choice of 16bit GPL singletasking desktop software for end users.
OpenGEM is designed to compliment the FreeGEM project.

It has the following changes from OpenGEM 2.2.0

              * Added SHUTDOWN.COM to GEMAPPS\GEMSYS to allow new
                options to reboot and shutdown the computer while
                using OpenGEM
              * Added code to GEM.BAT in C:\ to allow 'shutdown'
                options when exiting OpenGEM
              * Added PRINTER.BAT to GEMAPPS\GEMSYS\SETUP to
                allow SETUP.BAT to change printer drivers
              * Updated SETUP.BAT in C:\ and GEMAPPS\GEMSYS\SETUP
                to allow changes to printer drivers
              * Updated VIDEO.BAT in GEMAPPS\GEMSYS\SETUP to
                allow users to choose from all GEM video drivers
              * Updated SETUP.BAT in C:\ and GEMAPPS\GEMSYS\SETUP
                to allow use of all GEM video drivers
              * Redesigned INSTALL.BAT (by Chris Evans) to tidy the
                install process
              * Replaced missing copy of SETUP.BAT in C:\
                (in OpenGEM 2.2.0 it was accidentally only located
                in GEMAPPS\GEMSYS\SETUP)
              * Updated SETUP.BAT to reflect the removal of multiple
                desktop options
              * Updated GEMWEB.APP in GEMAPPS\GEMSYS to newer debugged
                version

                which incorrectly listed some setup instructions for
                loading HIMEM.EXE and EMM386.EXE. They were listed in
                the wrong order for use in CONFIG.SYS
              * Renamed GEMSETUP.TXT in GEMAPPS\GEMSYS\SETUP\PRINTERS

PS: The final version of OpenGEM Release 3 will feature further
enhancements and functions not included in this BETA release.

PPS: Sorry that some posts have been duplicated on the GEM-DEV and
GEM-ANNOUNCE mailing lists. My postings were repeated after failing to
appear on the list due to an unknown error.

PPPS: See? Nagging me endlessly to make a new release of OpenGEM did
work...the power of email is boundless...
