BTW, a guy I just set up a blog for (He's got an F-84F forward fuselage
section, remarkably complete) recently purchased something like 50 rolls
of microfilm from NASM for it. He literally has every drawing and bit of
documentation needed to build a brand new F-84F from scratch.

The reason I mention this is that I'm quite sure they'll have that same
kind of documentation for the Mercury capsule. It would certainly take
all the guesswork out of your project. :)
