Agreed, but the Arduino solution is more for people that more into
low-level DIY than the average sim geek.

Well you know, in this case it was a good thing. I've spent way too much
time woring on things that make things easier for other folks to get into
this hobby and I've ended up neglecting my own for far too long.

Nothing provides a wake up call like finding out you blew over $250 for no
real good purpose. :)

Jeeze, someone forgot to tighten down the last few bolts apparently. :)

Take a peek at Dictionaries Sean.. They're a very handy thing when you're
working with collections of objects.

That's the amount for led's but for 28vdc lamps the price go's up

It's service after the sale that counts!

diode-less massive input board.

Then I find this.

board.

You hear that sound? It's my forehead slamming into my desk top.
Repeatedly.

You can get an Arduino Duemilanove from eBay for about $20. More if you

buy one from those crazed digital crack dealers over at SparkFun
(http://www.sparkfun.com, $29.95 + shipping).

You can stack two of those Centipede boards on to a single Arduino
board,
resulting in 128 channels of I/O (mix and match in any form) for less
than
$75. Assembled.

I'm going to shelve work on my 16 channel board - there's no real point
to
it any longer. I'll likely consume the boards on various random
projects.
I'm going to order a couple of those Centipede boards and update the
firmware I wrote for the Gazoutta16 to work with it.

Note that if you also go get a Mux Shield and another Arduino board (the

Mux Shield and Centipede both use pins 4 and 5 so you can't share them
on
a single Arduino) you can get 48 10 bit analogs going too. Using PPJoy
(creates virtual joystick devices) and it's accompanying SDK, you can
pretty much do whatever you like at prices that essentially take the bar

to entry and run it through a wire extrusion die a few hundred times. :)

The chips the Centipede uses can't direct-drive loads greater than what an
LED would typically consume (20mA each - the chip has a max of 24mA, per
pin). However, they can source enough current at 5VDC to easily drive
what is known as a "logic-level" MOSFET. This means that you can build a
little circuit to use MOSFETs to drive relays, motors, incandescent bulbs,
or other devices that require more than 20mA at 5VDC to run.

A good choice for driving lamps is a BS270. It comes in a TO-92 package
and is dirt cheap. They'll handle 400mA, which is perfect for lamps and
can handle up to 60VDC. If you have a really high power need, the IRL620
comes in a TO-220 package and will handle up to 10A at (I think) over
100VDC.

Description on the video is that he got a normal DT switch to ACT like a
magnetically held toggle. That's the part that I boggle over. I'm quite
familiar with no-kidding magnetically held switches. :D

least, that was the plan.. now I have a good part of my very own
instructor station program written, which will do all the things that I
want, and is specific to my sim... so "Thanks" Gene!

Seriously though, anyone who has a vague interest in writing anything to
talk to MSFS through FSUIPC should download VB.net express 2010, get the
FSUIPC Client for .NET 1.3 (from Pete Dowson's forum) and start messing
around with the samples...
