Does anyone here have dimensions for the type of yoke shown here:

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Embraer-EMB-135BJ-Legacy/1467 321/L/&sid=2d97793a7c353290f9516194da7b536c

It doesn't have to be that exact yoke (it would be nice!), I just need a
general idea of what size it is.

tnx.

I've got two types of yoke to hand. One is a pair of unknown BAe yokes and
the other is from a Hawker HS125 and looks like this:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled-%28Fordair%29/Britis h-Aerospace-BAe-125-800B/0209284/L/

Note that the pivot point (for pitch) is often quite some distance below
floor level!

Any use?

That would be fine Roy, thank you. Any chance to get close up pics of
them along with measurements?

Do you happen to have any idea how far the yoke is off the deck?

In the real things, I don't doubt that. :)

Is that style yoke pretty much only seen from UK aircraft manufacturers?
Is there any kind of mil-spec (MoD?) design guidelines for them?

tnx.

I can get pics'n'inches for you tomorrow. I do have a spare one in pretty
messed up condition that will show the below-floor bits too.

The yoke is quite (very!) low in the 125 for some reason. Certainly lower
than our '41 for sure.

The Rams Horn style seemed popular in the 50's for Brit aircraft at least.
I believe Concorde has 'em too!

Incidentally.. the HS125 bits I used in my last pit build came from VR-BMB
which has an interesting history.

At one point it flew as G-AYLI for Martin Baker, and the story goes that
later as VR-BMB it was owned by Osama Bin Laden's father and was seized
and impounded at Stansted in the UK before being scrapped.

I'm trying to find confirmation of this at the moment.

If nothing else, it will no doubt ensure that we get the seat cushions
professionally cleaned.

It does. The Embraer Legacy 600 has them as well (I think the whole
Embraer line does) and it's a new-build aircraft. (The 600 came out in
2000 I think)

Thanks for the help Roy.

Was it siezed prior to 9/11? If so, any idea why?

I know nothing - yet.

But iirc Bin Laden senior was killed trying to land a Beechcraft and I
reckon that was _before_ VR-BMB was built ! So... digging required.

Well, that was kinda funny a ram's horn flight control with seat that has what looks like sheep skin for a cover.

Most excellent Roy! Thank you!

It gives me something to work off of.

Having "flown" the ram's horn style and the "conventional" style, which
has a better feel to it?

I think if you are actively 'hands on' flying - you don't really notice
any difference. The Rams-Horn feels a bit like motorcycle bars.

Personally, I prefer the more common type - like these:
http://www.spang.org/BAe-Yoke/

I'd have used these in my last sim if they hadn't been so enormous!

That's a nice looking yoke.

I figure if I'm going to spend the time to work out the issues with that
Embraer "sort-of-scale" cockpit, I should investigate the right yoke.

It gives me an excuse to finally try out a program called Cut3D that I
bought with my ShopBot. I figure I could make a material blank out of a
few laminated layers of 3/4" baltic birch plywood like I did for the F-15
SFS box. Should prove interesting.

Got another project ahead of it though - should be done Saturday.

There's a guy that runs a site called Splash One Bandit that is making hat
& castle switches for an insanely great price. The address is
http://www.splash-one-bandit.com/index.html.

I may buy some of them for the rams horn yoke test...
