See this post:

The guy has done a neat job with building a very small flight deck.

I asked for the SketchUp file for it and I posted DXF exports the shell
itself today. See the last post on page 3 for the link to the zip file.

That *is* neat! If I didn't have nine hundred and eighty thirteen
other projects I'd be cutting MDF right now :)

I'm thinking about tweaking it a bit so there's locking tabs on all the
parts and then cutting a set on the 'bot. I'd add more stringers and
maybe cut down the material thickness to 1/2" to save weight & expense.

Very nice!

I miss not getting my hands dirty on a fresh build. I think in some ways
it's also harder working with an existing cockpit.

It's a LOT harder with an existing shell. Worse if the shell is stripped
out.

The neat thing with his design is that the MIP is designed around three
off the shelf 17" LCD panels that have been stripped out of their plastic
enclosures.

I'll ask Ricardo if it's ok if I make the SketchUp file available for
download.

What version of DXF did you use, I get an "INVALID" dxf file.

That's weird. On just one file or all of them? DoubleCAD opens them just
fine, although I've not tried AutoCAD 2009.

I just spot checked a few using AutoCAD 2007 and they opened without
error.

Errrr. That's probably because I recall saving them in AutoCAD 2007 DXF
format. *sheepish grin*

Wanna try loading & re-saving with DoubleCAD (free) or do I need to
re-export using an older DXF format?

That's why, where is the fish when you need it!

No need I just wanted to look. I always save DXF's as R12 version, so
the guys with the old water jet can open them.

*groan* I wish.

Just for your amusement... I'm working on a Tornado cockpit at the moment.
It was built as a sim by BAe many moons ago.

Apart from the skin, just about everything else is made of alloy plate
about 1cm thick. It weighs in at about 650Kg.

After this job I'll be more than qualified to get into ship-building!

Will post pics when I remember/have time.

Roy.

That's kind of weird. Was it on a motion base or something?

Not that I'm aware of or can see from the structure. Each of the four legs
it stands on must weigh ooh.. about 100lb's a piece?

The story I got (I really want this clarified) was that this cockpit was
used to develop the layout/systems for the Panavia Tornado. After being
mothballed for some time it was then used to help develop toys for the
Typhoon.

Now - it's one of my toys. A heavy one at that !

Fit & Finish model maybe? The Boeing Museum of Flight has the F/A-18
model that MACDAC built for the Navy. it's a full size jet made out of
wood & fiberglass. Pretty cool display.

It was avionics work. There's about $1000 worth of DIN rail connectors
still in there.

I'll post pics as I build it back up.
