One of the things I've decided about this project is to release the
instruction manual for free. That lets people really understand what
they're getting into before they spend the money on plan set.

This evening I finished the instructions for the end caps. This is the
last component you'll build if you're not going to be adding the
windscreen and canopy. Tomorrow I'll get more done, but for now this is
where it's at:

http://www.geneb.org/pitkit/instruction_manual.pdf

The manual is not completed yet. I'll be making a few revisions to the
text as it is now as well as adding things like a table of contents and
front pictures. The manual is far from done - I still need to show the
final assembly as well as the details on assembling the canopy &
windscreen.

Enjoy!

I presume the sheet materials are all 8' x 4' standard sheets? It wasn't
mentioned in the BoM.

Dave

Oh I love the instruction manual, especially the quaint way you
'colonials' sorry 'ex-colonials' spell some of our words! gd&r

Hi, Gene.

even though you admit shortcomings, i find the manual very interesting.

one possible market might be for the woodworker who wants to give his
grandson the ultimate toy.

i'm serious about this one, since the manual reminded me more of a
model-shipbuilding kit more than anything else. people armed with
basic woodworking equipment might view this project in a very
different manner - as opposed ( or i should say in addition ) to the
current intended market

Now that is something that I'd never thought of. When the plan sets go on
sale, they'll be sold through a web site called Etsy, which is kind of
like eBay, but only for hand-made goods. Who knows who'll find it? :)

Thanks for the idea though - I'll have to post something over at Sawmill
Creek and see what falls out.

I need a controller that does not use keystrokes

that has the capability to handle 10 joystick inputs

We are using a Hagstrom KE-108 for other use .....

We would like a separate Joystick controller stand alone.

Could you give us a Recommendation.

If you want something that will appear as a joystick, try Leo Bodnar's
BU0836 Precision Joystick Controller. It'll give you 8 axes and 32
buttons.

I agree with that, I showed the manual to our resident CNC Routing
guy, who thought it was a "cool project" that he could get in to,
even though he has no particular interest in building a sim......

Frank, the BU0836 is designed to use pots in a "voltage divider"
configuration which means that any 3 wire hall effect device that is
designed to be a voltage dividing replacement for a potentiometer will
work. I'm not familiar with what is currently available though.

I do know that many Cougar users have replaced all the pots in their
sticks with hall effect devices.

Nah. You need more! You'll need to find a table saw not made by
Fisher-Price's Health & Safety dividion though. *huge grin*

That little gadget is the most f'ing awesome tool I've bought since the
'bot. It let's me accurately set the 23.5 degree angle that the
windscreen and canopy parts need to be cut at. You should grab the
updated copy of the manual - it has the finished "standard" version in it.
I'm hoping to get some work done on the windscreen this week.

Hey, mine's a Delta. Sadly it's not the cast iton one though :-( One
day.

I lose my workshop now for a few months while the builders extend my
house, but then I suspect the EC135 sim will start to take shape. I've
been accumulating parts for this for quite some time now and I've already
got a buyer for it so hey, it'd be a crime not to build it!

Plus - it's a good excuse to take up the offer of a ride in the real thing
I've been offered :-)
