It dawned on me this morning that I can't recall ever having posted a
picture of the revised throttle quadrant I did:

http://www.simpits.org/geneb/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/new_ quadrant.jpg

It's skinned with .080 black ABS plastic that I heat-formed with a heat
gun and a straight edge.

Thanks. The funny thing is I had to buy a 4x8 sheet of it because my
local plastic monger didn't have anything smaller. :)

Hehe. It's actually too thin for that. I'll find a use for it at some
point for sure. Worst case, it forces me to build a vacu-forming table
so I can put it to serious use. :)

Gene,

Don't you guys have a recycling depot? You wouldn't beleive the amount of
little knobs and bits of wonderful jewells of hardware I've picked up at
ours. Every once in awhile I'll drop off a couple of spent printers, and
bring home a bag of goodies. Some nice commercial grade rack mount cases
too. (I always take the belts out of dead printers (unless their broken)
Very handy little items.

That is a nice job man. You are an artist. Are you at the point yet where
you can count the days to the end?

LOL

Thanks. :)

Every time I see the end of one project on the horizon, another one pops
up and says, "Hey! Don't forget me!"

This is is why I'm currently creating disk images from 5.25" floppies at
the moment. (Commodore disks) *sigh*

I use a specially hacked 1571 drive to create the images. It's a special
cable that connects to the parallel port on the PC and uses a fancy
direct-to-chip interface: http://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~schepers/1571port.html

Here's what I've got stashed in the shop:

http://www.geneb.org/cbm/cbm_collection1.jpg
http://www.geneb.org/cbm/cbm_collection2.jpg
http://www.geneb.org/cbm/cbm_collection3.jpg

That doesn't include the Amiga stuff I've got. (2 1000's, 1 500 and 1
2000)

Ahhh. Video Toaster. Those were the days ...

You don't happen to have an Atari kicking around with a copy of Sun Dog do
you? That was my very first sim experience.

Hehe. Did I mention the IBM collection? 1 each of the 5150, 5160 and
5170? Or the Ampro Littleboard, the TRS-80 Model 4, 3 H-89's and an
Apple IIe? (The IIe runs Age of Reason - telnet to aor.retroarchive.org -
it's the only telnet reachable BBS running on real Apple 8 bit hardware)

Later this summer I'll be adding a Kaypro 10 and a Kaypro 4 to the
menagerie. :)

Forgot one...

http://www.simpits.org/~geneb/hayes.jpg

That anti-static bags hold both versions of the DC Hayes 103 300 baud
modem, S-100 bus and a Hayes MicroModem II for the Apple II line. The
little box on top is the telco interface for the MMII. :D

Ok, that's cool :)

Oh, and your menagerie makes mine look a little weak really :( I have a
couple of ZX81's (even have the 16k memory upgrade, and the cool
stick-on keyboard), a pair of Sanyo MBC-675 Lug-able PC's, a portable
with the really cool gas-plasma screen, and even a MAC Classic... sadly
these are all just for loading really old versions of FS... which I
collect...

Does this lot get me an entry into the "No I am not entirely sane" club?

I've got a Compaq III - it's got an orange gas-plasma screen. I think
it's a 286.

At one time, I'd have given my left arm for a TRS-80 Model 4p

I thought that was the sexiest techno beast on the planet.

I've got a 4D(Desktop) model. There's a guy that is in the process of
cloning the hi-res board for it too.

At some point I'm going to refit mine with 3.5 drives using the HSFE board
here:
http://www.lesbird.com/sebhc/storage/storage.html

It can be jumpered to turn off the AVR in order to use it as a simple
adapter board. You still have to use 720k media with them, but it beats
rotting 5-1/4" media.

LOL! I had a brand new unopened pack of 8" disks until I moved labs a few
years back - they got lost in the move.

Don't they seem absolutely HUGE now?

Yup. The Dragon was manufactured at St Austell down in Cornwall. I think
they might have been made in Spain too - later on. As far as I can
recall, the only difference between the Dragon and the Coco was a slight
difference in the keyboard matrix layout.

If this is the machine, California Digital is selling new ones (NOS I
suspect) for $45 a pop:

I checked eBay last night and there's a whole pile of CoCo stuff there.

however, TheGameArchives http://thegamearchives.com/ has miraculously returned.

my Amiga has long since packed it in, but i run my favorite games (on

if you've never been, check it out. he's got images for everything.

hi,

all this talk is really starting to hurt in the wrong places...

my first squeeze was an apple][ plus. i had the 6502 instruction set
and apple's memory map memorized.

i couldn't afford an assembler, so i would write out assembler output
by hand - had pads full of them.

gene's collection could be used as the set for any possible
re-release of "The IT Crowd".

watch the series if you haven't yet - you'll definitely enjoy it.

It's misc. stuff. I've been getting a pile of media from a defunct user
group and I image the interesting stuff and store the rest. I've also
given away about 500 disks to locals that need 'em.
